The time of year is here when we all get that extra kick of motivation to get up and go. You’ll find that you want to get things done around the house. You may want to get out into the garden and even get fit. A spring clean is one of the most satisfying things that you can do in your home in the warmer months. This is because by the time you are done you have a clear, clean and uncluttered space to enjoy. If you think you are in need of a clear out and spring clean this week, here are some ways to help you do it.
Too Much Stuff? It’s Time For A Spring Clean!
If You Were Robbed Tomorrow- What Would You Replace?
When it comes to clearing items out of your home you have to be ruthless. As humans, we tend to get very attached to items in the home. And this can cause our collection of things to build and build over the years. The issue with his is that space you live in stays the same size. To get rid of some old things, take a look at one room at a time and ask yourself the following: if you were robbed tomorrow, what items would you want to replace? If you think about things this way, your decluttering process will go much smoother. No one wants to have enough items in the home to use a self-storage on a permanent basis for the excess. Make sure you are ruthless and be tough: you won’t regret it.
Small Bursts
Don’t make yourself take a whole day to clear out the entire house. If you try to do this you will become tired. By the end of the day, you will be begging to finish. You won’t be throwing away the things you need to throw away. Give yourself the challenge of one room at a time. Go through everything you have on display plus all of your belongings. Get rid of anything you don’t love. Once you’ve done this you can clean the room and you are done. You’ll feel like you’ve achieved something. You won’t have to waste the entire day on clearing up.
Use First, Memories Second
When it comes to clearing items out of the home it is easy to get attached to a lot of times which have sentimental value. Although sentimental value is important, it isn’t as important as the use of the item. As you go through your home, work out which items have a purpose and which don’t. Once you have picked out items which don’t have a use you need to decide whether they hold enough emotional value for you to keep. If they don’t, get rid of them.
Change Your Habits
Once you have cleared everything out of the home and cleaned up, you will feel happy and you will have achieved something good. However, now is the time to change the way you look at items and change your habits. If you stay the same you’ll only end up in the same situation a few years down the line. In the future only buy things which either have a purpose. Better yet, only buy things that you know you will have the room for.
