Air quality is a big concern for a lot of people these days. Especially if you’ve got a breathing issue like asthma.
Air pollution is on the rise so it’s more important than ever that you protect yourself. Air quality in big cities is a problem because of all of the cars and industry. But that doesn’t mean you’re safe in the countryside.
Pollution from cars will still get into the house. Even though it won’t be anywhere near as bad as the city, that’s only one of the sources of pollution you need to worry about.
There are all sorts of other things that affect air quality in a home in the countryside. So you’re at risk just as much as anybody else. That’s why you need to use these tips to clean the air inside your home.
How To Improve Air Quality In A Countryside Home
If all of the windows in the house are closed, that air is just sitting there picking up more pollutants from around the house and there’s no fresh air coming through. That’s why you need to find a good air conditioner for the house.
It’s always useful to have in the summer anyway and it’ll help to filter out some of the pollutants in the air. This is a great way to improve air quality.
Be sure to pick up a mold test kit if you suspect a mold buildup in your home. Mold can be deadly if left untreated.
Dust is one of the biggest problems when it comes to air quality and a lot of it gets trapped in the carpets. If you’re not vacuuming regularly, all of that dust is being gradually released into the air.
And you’re breathing it all in. You should be vacuuming carpets every couple of days at least. Make sure that you’re cleaning out the vacuum as well so you’re getting good suction and removing as much dust as possible.
If you’re particularly worried, you can get air purifiers for dust. They’re specifically designed to filter the air and catch any dust that’s floating around in there before you start breathing it in.
Take Your Shoes Off
When you go outside you pick up all sorts of things on your shoes. Pollen, dust, mud and other chemicals that you might have come into contact with will all be dragged through the house if you’re wearing shoes.
Always take your shoes off near the door. And don’t wear them around the house. It’ll stop you from bringing in any unwanted pollutants. It’ll make cleaning a lot easier as well as improving air quality.
Aerosols like deodorant and hairspray have some nasty chemicals in there. They’re hanging around in the air after you’ve used them. Ideally, you should try to cut them out entirely.
But for a lot of people, that’s not really very practical. You can switch spray deodorant for roll-ons and try making your own cleaning products. There are safer alternatives for a lot of things.
You may have to use aerosols sometimes. If you are going to use them, make sure that you do it near an open window. Let the room air out for a while afterward. It’s one last way to improve air quality.
It’s not just people that live in a big city that need to worry about air quality. It affects everybody. But if you make these simple changes around your home, you can stop it from becoming a problem.
