Turn Your Home Into An Eco-Friendly Paradise

It is becoming more and more of an issue when people buy houses, to make sure that they are as green and eco-friendly as possible. With the rise in global warming and the damage we are doing to our planet, many people are opting to change their ways in order to save energy and keep us afloat.

It doesn’t matter whether you get travel tower hire and put a huge wind turbine outside the house, or simply use less water: any contributions that we can make to the environment is one which we should take and be proud of. If you want to make your home more eco-friendly this year here are some of the things you can do…

Make Your Home More Eco-Friendly

Cut down on the Water

Water is the most precious resource we have as humans, and we cannot live without it. In order to make sure that we don’t waste our water there are certain things, we can do to our homes. The first of these is to go around your house and fix any leaks that may be present. A leak in your home not only damages your house, but it will also be wasting a lot of water. By fixing leaks you can be sure that the only water you use is what you intend to use.

In everyday life, try not to fill up the kettle right to the top each time you make a cup of tea, don’t run the tap while you brush your teeth, and try not to stand in the shower for an hour every morning, as tempting as it may be. Keep your water usage to a minimum and this will save you money, and the planet energy.

Get a smart meter

A smart meter is a small device which you plug into your home to show you how much money you spend on electricity and gas each day. The cost of electricity and heating in the home can be huge. This is due to the fact that you are using multiple devices every day and cooking food. And don’t forget about heating up your home during the winter.

Having a smart meter can make you think about how much you are spending and stop you from using way too much energy. The fact that you can see what you have spent will likely make you want to keep the number as small as you can. Most larger home stores carry these as well as some electric companies.

Lighting is key

One of the things which can make a massive difference to your home is the lighting. Replace those old halogen bulbs with energy efficient ones which will shine much brighter but use a lot less electricity. They are made to be more durable than other light bulbs too meaning that you will likely save money by not having to replace them as often.

In the garden, rather than a motion sensing electric light, switch to a motion sensing solar light. It requires no energy because it will draw energy from the sun during the day. This is much better for the environment and much cheaper!

And when not in the room turn off the lights. That’s wasted electricity and thus wasted money.

Get solar panels

The easiest way to save energy is using the power of the sun. Install solar panels on your roof to help run the electricity for your entire home. Although they may not be able to cover the whole bill, they will certainly make a huge difference in the amount of energy you use each day.

Solar panels can be found by doing a Google search. Some towns and cities offer government-funded programs to help you get started. An added bonus is that some electric companies will buy the extra electricity you produce making solar panels a win-win situation.
