Fall is now upon us, and as the harvest comes in we can look forward to some warming autumnal food that is just as good for our soul as it is our bodies.
This time of year is always a great time to cuddle up and cozy down with loved ones, particularly as Halloween approaches and we can tuck into candy whilst watching family favorite horror films such as Hocus Pocus, set in the much revered Salem, Massachusetts at this time of year.
In essence, this is the perfect time to wrap up warm and get cozy with yourself and your family. Just because the nights are getting darker and the days are getting shorter, doesn’t mean you need to have dampened spirits. There are all sorts of ways you can enjoy this time of year.
So, let’s take a look at some of the best ways to squeeze the most out of fall:
How To Get Cozy This Fall
COOK A HEARTY SOUP
The one core ingredient at the heart of this time of year, when it comes to cooking is that of fresh produce. This is where concepts like a farm stand that further the concept of farm to fork, play a big part. This is particularly true when it comes to making simple dishes like warming soups.
The best options are to use root vegetables that are in season, combined with subtle yet lively herbs such as rosemary and garlic. If you’re feeling in the mood for more heat, you could add some fresh chili. Or for a quirky twist, use smoked garlic for a rich smoky flavor that goes perfectly with parsnips, pumpkins, and potatoes.
WRAP UP WARM & GO FOR A WALK
Fall can get quite blustery. This, combined with the warm colors of leaves falling from the trees, can make for a romantic time of year to get into nature and explore the great outdoors. This is where having a dog comes in nicely. There’s no better companion on an autumnal walk than a waggy-tailed friend.
CUDDLE UP TO A GOOD FILM
We’ve already discussed the prospect of watching a Halloween film, with the wind howling outside with you protected by your double glazed windows to keep the ghosts and ghouls out. Yet there’s nothing stopping you cuddling up with your loved ones to a fun movie in your pajamas with some great snacks. This is an excellent way to enjoy the Fall weather from the inside.
GO FRUIT PICKING
Fall is also a great time for wild fruit picking. And in doing this, you can make a variety of jams and chutneys that will be perfect for the holidays.-You can always offer some to friends as a creative gift or to have on the table next to the turkey.
TAKE A HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE
If you’re feeling particularly extravagant, you could opt to take a hot air balloon ride over the crispy canopy of Fall leaves. That said, if you don’t have the head for heights or the spare cash to indulge in a hot air balloon ride, you could go on a road trip through one of the many national parks that are perfect for this time of year.
You now have a few good options to get cozy this Fall. Will you be participating in any of the above activities? Tell me about them or other suggestions in the comment box below.
