As standard, garages tend to have concrete flooring. Now, there are a couple of reasons for this, so don’t be confused if you buy a house and the garage looks like this. Firstly, it is cheaper for the builders to just leave a concrete floor in there. Secondly, concrete is not that awful for a garage, it is just not the best option around.
If you have a garage and you want to get more out of it, changing the concrete flooring is a great place to start. In fact, it is highly recommended that you do just that. Why? Here are three reasons concrete flooring is not the best for your garage:
Not as durable as you think
Your natural assumption is that concrete flooring is the most durable option around. In reality, it is nowhere near as strong and durable as you think.
People with garages that have cracked floors can strongly back this statement up! If you constantly keep a heavy car in your garage, the floor slowly begins to weaken and crack. This happens on roads as well, and sidewalks.
So, if you are leaving the flooring as it is because you think concrete is the most durable choice…you are wrong!

Does not respond well to spillages
The chances are you will have some liquids in your garage. If your car is in there, oil from it can fall on the floor.
You might grease up a bike chain or use your garage to do all sorts of little repairs. In any case, spilling things on a concrete floor can be bad news.
The liquid can soak into the porous rock, leading to stains. You are better off opting for things like professional epoxy flooring that is designed to stand up to stains. Any flooring that comes with a protective layer on the surface will be a better option than concrete.
Funnily enough, floorings like this often end up being more durable because of the extra layers!
A very boring choice
The first two reasons are a tad serious. We are talking about boring things like durability and stains! So, on a lighter note, concrete flooring is a bad choice as it is boring.
It just does not look that great and is incredibly plain. There are so many flooring options that will look so much better in your garage. Especially if you want to use it quite regularly.
For instance, if you want to make it a home office or workshop, a concrete floor is really bland and dull. It makes you feel like you are still outside, which is why it is better to get rid of it.

Final Thoughts
Ultimately, the choice is entirely up to you. However, concrete flooring in the garage is never as good as you originally think. It is typically only in there for convenience and costs, but there are much better options out there to choose from.
You are better off thinking about what your garage will be used for and then pick the flooring option. This way, you should land on something that suits the garage’s purpose.
